Lifting rebars safely

Straub Eisen- und Stahlhandel GmbH is not only a leading processor for reinforcing steel in Germany. The company in Lichtenau, Baden, has also been a long-standing TRUNINGER customer.
That’s why, TRUNINGER was the first port of call, when it came to building a new warehouse for rebars. After all, Straub has been operating a Swiss-made lifting magnet system since 2006.

Old and new: a technically and economically perfect liaison

The new project was taken to us in 2021. It relies on combining the existing plant with a new, technologically advanced lifting magnet system. This is because the new building is significantly larger. In cooperation with a project developer, Straub planned a new crane system into which our system was integrated. "We are very pleased that Straub relies on continuity for the construction of their new building," says TRUNINGER CEO Rolf Truninger. And his partner Felix Truninger adds: "The new system Straub Eisen- und Stahlhandel is installing, represents a great step forward and we are convinced it will prove an absolute anchor in terms of reliability and safety."
In addition to the installed system, which we moved from the old to the new work floor in just a few days, TRUNINGER manufactured a new system which meets Straub's current requirements for efficiency, safety and reliability within three months. Our service technicians installed a flexible picker with five compact, strong magnets on the crane that had been mounted before.

Magnets ensure maximum safety

At a size of about 40 x 60cm, each individual magnet weighs around 500 kg. Their magnetic force can be finely dosed thanks to our innovative controller technology. To ensure the required safety factor of 2, the lifting force doubles automatically once the load has been picked up.
Thanks to the adjustable length of the spreader beam, Straub can efficiently handle single or double bundles of rebar of different lengths with a total weight of up to 5 tons.
A special factor is the individual magnets’ deep magnetic field: It ensures that even the lower bars within the bundles are magnetically lifted safely. This also ensures greater positional tolerance compared to mechanical systems when picking.
With the new system, Straub's employees are able to unload a truck loaded with 30 tons of reinforcing steel in just six strokes in 12 minutes—quickly and safely.
